Me and my friend mike had a very good debate about Economy the other day.
Below is the actuall transcript of that chat:
PM: mike i just had this weird idea
what is the population of malaysia?

i think 80 billion no?
Mike: yup
PM: you and I are malaysians right?
Mike: i'm not sure abt that ..
PM: hahahaha
Mike: but thats what our IC says

PM: anyway.... what is wrong in malaysia giving each malaysian 1 million
out 80 billion
Mike: then what ?
petronas close shop ?
every one is rich .. no body wana work ...
PM: how much they loose..... 27 million only compared to billions of ringgit poured into abandoned projects
Mike: abandoned project money only goes to certain families
PM: aha there is where ppl come in... it is 1 time pay off
if you survive then you survive if not then you work
Mike: no lah .. ... come to reality
PM: why not?
Mike: not practical
PM: why not?
Mike: if u r given such a huge amt money .. u will be lazy ..
or u will called as a malay
u r future generation will be useless ..
PM: well think abt it everybody benefits from it
even the malays will support this idea
Mike: maybe become drug addicts ..
no body will do any kind of job.. u need to get foreign workers in to the country
to do the odd job ..
soon they will start to rob u .. when u r alone
PM: i doubt that .....
Mike: crime rate will go up !!!
PM: if every 1 is rich why should i rob you?
Mike: ppl will be gambling every day
thats where u not looking on a wider scope

PM: because the current system makes rich ppl richer the poor ppl poorer

when everone is rich ... again some party will become poor .. n some will be extra rich

PM: but life quality will be upgraded

Mike: where will the banglas .. indons will stay ?

Mike: remember every one is rich now
but u have given them 1M
PM: yes rich is in what sense... we are richer now by comparison to our forefathers but does that mean we are millionaires.... no
it is merely to induce local economy and to increase life quality

Mike: if u r smart .. u can multiply it ..
else .. u will gamble ..loose all the money ...
PM: remember you are toilet cleaner
Mike: one u loose it u will go to u r friend n borrow his 500K
u will gamble .. n loose it also ..
then the guy takes a knife n kill's him
he will go to jail ..
the remaining 500K ,, need to be bribe to the police n lawyers ..
bring the guy out ...
so the money has caused .. ppl to gamble .. kill ... bribe .. etc
in one year ..time (after giving out the 1M)
the country will be in KO's
PM: yeah but that is already happening now it is not something new
Mike: it will speed up the process
10 years of evolution will become 1 year
PM: the good part is the genuinely smart ppl will better off and it will induce the country economy
Mike: greed will increase ...

PM: ppl will have more purchasing power
Mike: for a very short period
Exponential growth is bad for economy
it's a bubble
PM: yeah b ut it will boost the economy some sort of stimulation package
Mike: The bubbles will bust
cauz ppl like soros will jump in
market will be floating in a bubble
PM: we have measure for that in place
Mike: when he puls out ... every one dies
PM: Anadha krishan pulled out of bursa why?
Mike: he only pulled out Maxis shares
PM: because malaysian market is not what it seems
with ppl having purchasing power the market will boom
Mike: cauz Malaysian market is not matured for telco business
look at teressa kok
she was captured under ISA
PM: huh? mike that is totally 2 different thing
Mike: the china man community warned the gov
the market will down 20% ... each day
they released her on sat
cauz the market is controled by cina man .... not Ananda Krishnan
PM: in the case of teresa kok... the market is still going down
PM: and i beg to differ also on the issue of china man controlling the market..that is not what the intan or something like that report stated...remember the chinaman quit

It was a good Idea, Good Debate but end of the day it was just a coffee shop talk.

Your "Economy Talk" with Mike (and me) is beautiful. A beautiful dream. But dreams come seldom true or if, most of the time, in a different way than you want.
Why should a company having 80 billions give 1 million to 27 million people? Of course, it is only peanuts, in your and my view. But they will not do it. Because they suffering from a sickness against which no vaccine has been found: Greed.
And lets face it: You and me are also subject to greed. Lets assume we got the million. You one, me one. Basically, you have nothing to fear from me. But what, if one day I wake up and I want your million too? OK, we are friends and this would never occur between you and me. But, trust me, there are many, many who would try to get "our" money.
Lets face it: Money is one base of evil in this world. But not the only one. My forefather, living in caves, did not know what money was. They went out when it was needed and did hunt a deer or a bear. By hitting them on the head with a thick branch from a tree. They ate the meet and they clothed themselves with the animal's skin.
They did not have weddings as we do, with lush ceremonies. They left the cave, they saw a woman, hit her on the head and dragged to the cave by the hair. So, you would have done like this too.
And one day, I would have gone for bear hunting and see your woman picking berries in the fields. And I would like her and hit her on the head and drag her into my cave.
Dream, my friend, dream. Perhaps one day, an elf will pass and make your dreams really come true.
Sometimes miracles happen. To me, it never happened. So, I make my own little miracles.
Well, Peter you are always right.But then again Dreams are the only thing is free and only with Dreams we can achieve heights in life. For example the famous speech " I have a dream " by martin Luther king. We shall see if his dream comes thru end of November.
If Obama wins, then yes I can dream on but if he fails then I rest my case.
